Tasting Notes: Lemon + Plum + Gooseberry

Kiganda Estate sits just outside Thika, a key hub in Kiambu County, with deep roots in Kenya’s coffee history. Thanks to the flat terrain & proximity to Nairobi, this region has been home to coffee farms for over a century—close enough for access to markets, but historically rural enough for large-scale growing.

Kenya is known for some of the most efficient washed processing in the world—clean, bright parchment, careful density sorting, & high-elevation conditioning are standard practice & a point of pride passed down through generations of processing teams.

At Kiganda, that attention to detail shows up at every step. Coffee is depulped the same day it is picked, then fermented underwater overnight. From there, it moves through long washing channels where it is scrubbed clean in fresh running water & sorted by density. The beans are then transferred to soaking tanks for an additional day in clean water before being laid out on raised beds to dry slowly in the sun.

ROASTMASTER NOTES:

I roasted light this exceptional Kenya green coffee to accentuate the intrinsic fruit & beautifully balanced tart-acidity. In the cup, a dazzling & refreshing splash of fresh-squeezed lemon & gooseberry notes surround a juicy-rich, luscious fruit body. Subtle hints of herbal garden spices such as mint add an energetic layer to this complex coffee. Kenyan coffees are sought-after around the world, making this coffee ideal for the aficionado but also anyone who likes a vibrant & lively cup of coffee—you will want to add this remarkable offering to your daily ritual!
